Soma Yukihira’s wanted nothing more than to beat his dad in a cooking contest and take over the family diner. Until his dad suddenly shuts the restaurant down to go work abroad and tells Soma he’s enrolling him in a cooking school. While Soma can’t believe what’s happening and is visibly upset with his father’s decision, Tootsuki Academy is no ordinary culinary school. It’s a prestigious institution where culinary giants study, refine their talents, and go on to be successful chefs… or get expelled. Erina “God Tongue” Nakiri, is one of the students, and the creme de la creme. Which is why she tries all in her power to prevent Soma from even entering the school. However, Soma will not be underestimated and will put all he has learned through his life from his father and on his own to the test. When Soma learns that only a handful of students graduate every year, he feels more motivated to reach the very top of Tootsuki! Can Soma dish it out?
Sentai Filmworks did what they do best this summer and presented us with a limited edition box set as prestigious as Totsuki Academy itself, which contains not only all 24 episodes of the first season of Food Wars!, but also a bundle of goodies all wrapped up in a deluxe chipboard bento box!
Food Wars Season 1 Trailer
The bento box-inspired chipboard box unfolds open to reveal most of the goodies neatly arranged in compartments. But where are the discs? Why, they’re in a small hidden compartment which opens when you tug at a small ribbon placed in the front of the box. In that compartment, you’ll find the DVD box, Blu-ray box, and a collector’s booklet.
The Blu-ray box has our favorite aspiring chef, Soma, on the cover; and the Blu-ray box is decorated with the beautiful food snob Erina and her assistant, Hisako; while the collector’s booklet showcases Soma and Akira Hayama, one of Yukihira’s new rivals.
This is where things get even more fun! Sentai Filmworks has built up a reputation for coming up with some of the most drool-worthy premium box sets which include some pretty exclusive and exciting extras, and this Food Wars! Set is no exception! Let’s start from the top, shall we?
