Ys: Memories of Celceta [Game Review]

Rob “NualphaJPN” B.
Help Adol restore his memory and bring peace to the world in this action-packed classic!
  • System: PC (Steam)
  • Publisher: XSEED/ Marvelous
  • Developer: Nihon Falcom
  • Release Date: July 25, 2018
  • Players: Single Player

Ys: Memories Of Celceta – Official PC Launch Date Trailer

As the title of the game suggests, Ys: Memories of Celceta focuses primarily on Adol, as he races around trying to regain his memory about the events that took place within Celceta. In typical Nihon Falcom fashion, Memories of Celceta focuses on its quintessential action RPG elements, combined with a genuinely intriguing story that focuses on companionship, loss, tragedy, and moving through adversity in order to seek solace within.

Ys: Memories of Celceta originally saw its debut on the PlayStation Vita back in 2012 with great applause, as fans of the series complemented its fast-paced gameplay paired with a strong narrative. The title has now officially released on Steam for the first time since its debut, with plenty of perks to give it a more modern feel. If you’re a fan of Nihon Falcom titles then Ys: Memories of Celceta should be a no brainer purchase. If you’re just being introduced to this highly celebrated series then be rest assured that your time with the game will be an extraordinary one.

Nihon Falcom never rests on its laurels whenever it comes to action RPG performance, and with Ys: Memories of Celceta you’re getting the full package and more. With a constant stream of content this is catered to those who love adventure, discovery and a strong plot to keep you engaged for hours.

Despite its age, Ys: Memories of Celceta still looks beautiful and much crisper in 60FPS, along with the addition of a configuration system ala Steam to ensure that you can tweak the game to perform to your liking. As we stated earlier, Ys: Memories of Celceta is an action RPG that places much of its focuses on main protagonist Adol, who must regain his memories about past events that will help guide him closer to solving the problems that plague him and his colleagues in the present.

Expect to be enamored by the solid character development as well as exceptional gameplay that’s incredibly easy to pick up, but will require some practice to truly master the combo system. Boss battles are your typical run of the mill Nihon Falcom style battles, which are sure to provide a satisfying challenge without pushing you too hard, along with good voice acting to keep you entertained during the story scenes. Known to fans as Boss Rush mode, this will certainly be keeping you up for hours and will require a strong understanding of the real-time combat features. Will you be able to successfully uncover all of Adol’s past memories in time before it’s too late?

YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
So before jumping into the major selling point that is gameplay, as per tradition we like to touch base on the visual aspects since they play somewhat of a role as a whole. Ys: Memories of Celceta released in Japan in September of 2012, with its North American Vita release coming a year later. With that in mind it’s going to be clear that on a visual level the game isn’t going to be pristine in a lot of areas. That isn’t to say however that work hasn’t gone into making sure it’s best suited for Steam because frankly, it runs incredibly well in 60FPS as we mentioned in the earlier paragraphs. For that alone, Ys: Memories of Celceta gets massive plus points because it no longer suffers the issues that plagued the Vita, with its somewhat sluggish frame performance and animations looking a little jaded.

The UI still remains the same from the original but with a visual upgrade to make the colors a little more vibrant and less muted than they were on Sony’s handheld. Character cutscenes look much more dazzling on Steam as the colors tend to pop more, while level environments have seen a slight upgrade in terms of texture mapping, etc. There are still some noticeable issues in the level design area, but for a ported Vita title it certainly has better presentation on the Steam version.

Not to mention that with the addition of the Steam configuration system you’re able to fully customize the game to run at an incredibly high frame rate once unlocked, allowing players to truly experience the game like never before.

YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
This is perhaps the biggest selling point after the actual gameplay and is perhaps Nihon Falcom’s greatest achievement as a whole, and that’s the music. Hands down Ys: Memories of Celceta has one of the best game soundtracks our ears have listened to in a very long time. With its mix of slow and emotional piano driven pieces to the incredibly heart pumping rock ensembles, Ys: Memories of Celceta truly doesn’t disappoint in this department and whether you’re a follower of Nihon Falcom or not will not make a difference, as the music will captivate anyone playing. You won’t notice it at first since you’ll be so immersed in the wicked gameplay, multi-character party system, and much more!

Once you’ve played through the game we highly recommend grabbing the official soundtrack to really experience everything without distraction. Did we mention there’s an anime intro in the game that’s totally godlike? No? Ok well now you know, so don’t skip it!

YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
So of course we simply can’t skip out on the gameplay because well, without it you’d only have an amazing soundtrack to listen to which certainly isn’t bad at all. Those diving into Ys: Memories of Celceta for the first time will be surprised to know that the gameplay is surprisingly easy to pick up, as the game does a splendid job of guiding you through the controls and mechanics as you play. It will certainly feel like you’re just mashing your way through hordes of enemies in the beginning but be rest assured that you’re senseless mashing will need some proper planning, because the further you progress in the game the enemies become much stronger and boss battles are more enduring.

Needless to say, you’ll definitely need to spend time with the game to truly fall in love with it so practice as much as you can during the early stages, so that you’ll be better prepared down the road. With the help of the multi-character party system you’ll be able to swap characters in and out of your party with ease, and if you pair two similar characters together your attacks will receive major buffs, among other perks. This is where Ys: Memories of Celceta gets real interesting because it doesn’t force you to rely solely on Adol to come out victorious, as there will be times where you’ll need to immediately swap to your other party member to deal massive damage.

YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
Each come with their own unique perks that you’ll need to pay attention to, so as we mentioned earlier it’s not just about mashing your way through to victory. A great deal of strategy plays a major role in successfully overcoming whatever obstacles stand in your way, and while the story itself is somewhat linear it still provides some depth for you to explore. Speaking of story, the game does allow for you to make choices during dialogue which help to better understand and learn more about those around you.

These choices don’t necessarily change the overall plot in any way but it’s still nice to have those choices to help spice things up a little. Ys: Memories of Celceta has one of the most expansive locales in the entire history of the series, allowing you to customize waypoints, and a robust mapping system that will help you if things get confusing. There’s a plethora of things to discover in the game so having the ability to customize your waypoints really helps a ton, especially when hunting around for rare treasure chests that require special keys. You’ll definitely find yourself back tracking a lot because there’s just so much to look for but it’s all worth it because the gameplay is so satisfying from start to finish, that you won’t even realize.

YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
YsMemories-Memories-of-Celceta-logo-500x500 Ys: Memories of Celceta - PC/Steam Review
In closing, Ys: Memories of Celceta certainly lives up to the expectations that we had coming into the game, which was Nihon Falcom impressing us with its unquestionably impressive music scores. We don’t think there’s ever been a Nihon Falcom title that stuck out like a sore thumb when it comes to poor gameplay or soundtrack, but perhaps you may know and you can comment down below to remind us!

By that as it may, Ys: Memories of Celceta is the quintessential action RPG experience that any fan of the genre should not sleep on, and hardcore fans should dive into right away. Again because the game is dated there were of course some design flaws in polygon count but honestly, once you start hacking and slashing your way through those visual issues no longer become the center of attention.

Ys: Memories of Celceta is a must have action RPG title no matter how old it is. Its modern upgrades make it feel and look a lot sharper, with the challenging aspects of the gameplay having you come up with endless strategies to not die at all costs. We hope you found this review to be insightful, with enough information to give you the verdict on whether to buy this or not. Of course we recommend buying it!! LOVELIVE! SUNSHINE!! Aqours Globe Enjoy Reside! Concert Assessment

“Connected by a rainbow”

As component of a great three-day occasion, Anisong Globe Matsuri’s very first show of the weekend was the Aquors reside! The cast of “LOVELIVE! SUNSHINE!!” began off Anime Expo as component of the pre-show entertaining, and the lines had been enormous! In spite of the amazing heat, there had been a big quantity of attendees in cosplay and these dressed head to toe in memorabilia of their favored “LOVELIVE!” members. In spite of not becoming the original LOVELIVE! girls, Aqours has garnered fans all more than the globe. The nine voice actresses not only sing and dance like their characters, but speak to the audience and every single other in character as effectively for component of their overall performance.

Men and women of all ages and nationalities lined up in front of the Microsoft Theater, lines wrapping about the outdoors. In spite of doors opening at four:30 pm, folks walking up nevertheless had to wait about 10 minutes prior to getting into the enormous venue and becoming greeted by a welcoming blast of cool air. For such a enormous theater with 7,100 seats and upper and reduce levels, their capacity to hold the location so cold in such blistering heat is astounding. The lobby is enormous which created it straightforward for folks to grab a drink or uncover their way to their seats even with the flood of folks. Some attendees continued to brave the heat in order to get merchandise which was situated outdoors the venue to appropriate up till the show began. Towels and penlights in hand, absolutely everyone created their way to their assigned seats as six pm drew close to, heralding the commence of the show.

When the girls began their very first two songs with no intro, just jumping appropriate into it they showed such amazing power and likeness to their respective characters it was like Aqours had come to life. Everyone’s smiles had been so engaging that the audience discovered themselves mesmerized. It was an extremely effective commence, and although their second song involved much less smiling and a far more severe demeanor, the level of intensity in no way wavered. It was amazing to believe that these folks had been voice actors and not expert idols.

Soon after their very first two songs, they took a moment to stand in a line and introduce themselves to the excited fans. The audience was extremely in sync, erupting in applause and cheering and immediately quieting down to hear the subsequent factor becoming mentioned. The Aqours girls seemed shocked but delighted that even overseas, so numerous folks knew the calls and the characters’ catchphrases. Each and every voice actress introduced herself by character and name, even though they spent longer interacting with the audience in techniques that had been special to their characters.

When the girls went back to singing, the audience cheered and thrust their penlights in time with the beat. The two video screens on the appropriate and left showed closeups of the overall performance which was good for these sitting farther away, but created it tough to see the diverse formations of the complete group. The middle screen either had some decorative animation such as music notes or suns or random shapes more than the video or would show clips from “LOVELIVE! SUNSHINE!!” The voice actresses’ capacity to split off into groups with their personal choreography devoid of the members singing to instantly obtaining in sync with every single other for shared lyrics and dancing was amazing.

Aqours had a specific surprise in the type of a quick animated segment exactly where chibi versions of Aqours’ heads talked to the audience about sneaking into the dressing area and catching some of the members unaware! Yohane and Ruby had been reporters which means to get some behind the scenes action but ended up in a savannah! With the other members appearing as wild animals, it was very the unexpected twist.

Aquors-01-LOVELIVE-SUNSHINE-Aquors-Concert-Concert LOVELIVE! SUNSHINE!! Aquors Concert Review

Unexpectedly, the 3 sub units in Aqours created their appearances as effectively with new costumes! Initial to return to the stage was CYaRon consisting of Anju Inami who plays Chika, Ai Furihata who plays Ruby, and Shuka Saito who voices You. Their cute and energetic songs got absolutely everyone appropriate back into concert-mode following the funny quick they had observed. They taught the audience calls to one particular of their songs and had absolutely everyone shout “I love CYaRon!” prior to their final song. Up subsequent was the regal Azalea with members Nanaka Suwa who plays Kanan, Arisa Komiya who plays Dia, and Kanako Takatsuki who plays Hanamaru. Their lovely movements and costumes had been entrancing. They took a moment to get the audience to say ‘guru guru guru!’ (turn turn turn) they could give a quite twirl to show off the outfits they had been so proud of. Following following them was the final unit Guilty Kiss of Aina Suzuki as Mari, Aiko Kobayashi as Yohane, and Rikako Aida as Riko. The edgiest of the trios, Guilty Kiss also had extravagant outfits with a gothic style and offered a bit of a departure from the rather cutesy songs from prior to.

Soon after Guilty Kiss retreated back stage, yet another quick animation like the one particular prior to it began playing. This time when the fitting area door was opened, a bare, cold area with a poor family members (consisting of Aqours members) came into view. Whilst they lamented about the harsh cold of Osaka, repo guys (nevertheless other members) came in to take every thing away. One particular can not anticipate the horrors that lie in the Aqours dressing room…

As the second quick ended, the gang was back with each other for their final two songs. The final song of the evening, Sunshine PikaPika Ondo, may have been a calmer song compared to their earlier set, but Anju (Chika) playing a taiko drum although the other girls sang about her waving their fans in their specific haoris, absolutely everyone discovered themselves swept up in festival spirit. After the song was more than, the members took a moment to thank absolutely everyone for becoming so fired up and cheering along so considerably. They went down the line to give their heartfelt thanks and inform the audience what it meant to them to execute this evening.

The voice actresses for Aqours clearly take their jobs seriously, placing in enormous amounts of power in their songs and emulating their characters. They know what their fans are seeking for and are far more than pleased to give. One particular of the items that created this show so specific was just how considerably they interacted with the audience. Even even though English was tougher for some than other folks, absolutely everyone attempted to speak a small so that absolutely everyone could comprehend them. Anju accidently mentioned ‘2020’ rather of ‘2018’ and she seemed embarrassed but with absolutely everyone cheering her on and supporting her, she continued regardless of possibly feeling a small nervous. Each and every member took their time with their introductions, demanding considerably of the audience in terms of cheers and responses but becoming extremely excited every single time the audience would fulfil their part.

An additional cute moment was when Guilty Kiss showed off the ‘kawaii points’ of their outfits. Each and every girl pointed out her favored component which ended up becoming a bow either on their footwear, their back, or their chest. The proud appears on their faces as they showed off their kawaii points was adorable.

One particular of the most specific moments for each the audience and for Aqours was throughout their second to final song, “Yuuki wa Doko ni, Kimi no Mune ni”. Sporting their t-shirts and dancing away, they continued to wow absolutely everyone with their overall performance. By the finish of the song, absolutely everyone with penlights and raised them up and developed a lovely rainbow from front to back. Some of the girls teared up or even cried a small, and the astounded appear on Anju’s face moved absolutely everyone in the theater. It was a magical moment that showed everyone’s determination and camaraderie.

Anisong World Matsuri ~Japan Super Live~ Concert Review

“Connected by a rainbow”

Friday of Anime Expo had everyone excited about the numerous events taking place, including the 2nd day of Anisong World Matsuri. As part of the Super Japan Live, 4 accomplished musicians in the world of anime would share the stage. May’n gets her name from wanting to “sing music that will become the ‘main’ theme for all”. Sangetsu Girl Sayuri is a self-described 2.5-dimensional singer/songwriter that transcends the 2D and 3D planes. Aimer is a testament to human will as she once lost her voice but regained it through practice and determination. Yuki Kajiura’s elegant, beautiful clothing matches her powerful, orchestral pieces.

Despite the multiple levels and huge space that can seat 7,100 people, the Microsoft Theater stood as a refreshingly cool oasis in the 90+ degree weather. Many people were in cosplay unrelated to the concert but with the incredibly long lines and oppressive heat, most people didn’t want to take the extra time to change. The crowd was chattering excitedly about what songs they hoped to hear and pondered what sort of things they’d see inside. There were a lot of older fans who had even seen May’n back in 2010 and were looking forward to seeing her after so long. FATE series fans were looking forward to a lineup consisting of so many people who had contributed songs to the long-running series.

I wonder how many anime OPs I’ll recognize. These guy have done so much!
Aimer-Anisong-World-Matsuri-Japan-Super-Live-capture Anisong World Matsuri ~Japan Super Live~ Concert Review A Super Unique Lineup
I love how Sangetsu Girl Sayuri has her anime self and 3D self! I wonder what her performance will be like.

The show was supposed to start at 7 pm, but after a brief delay, May’n ran out yelling ‘ARE YOU READY TO ROCK??’ with 4 back up dancers behind her. The three large video screens on stage showed her close up, absolutely beaming. She mostly stayed in place while her dancers did a complicated routine, but May’n’s powerful voice commanded attention. Unlike the popular cutesy child-like voices of many female Japanese pop singers, May’n’s voice packs power and a wild quality that makes for an amazing live show. With an impressive start, May’n started running around the stage, dancing excitedly for her second song. Her control over her voice even while running and jumping was very impressive. After the song ended, she took a moment to talk to the audience and tell them how happy she was to be back at Anime Expo. She yelled “GET HIGH, GUYS!” before going right into her next song. This time it was a slower-paced, dramatic song and the crowd turned their penlights to blue. With her dancers back on stage, she continued to wow the crowd with her incredible vocals. She ended her set with Last Goodbye, proclaiming her love for the audience.

Up next was Sangetsu Girl Sayuri, whose stoic demeanor made the gentleness of her voice quite the surprise for those unfamiliar. Her bangs shrouded one eye and her big clothing and guitar obscured most of her form. Though higher and less wild than May’n, her voice rang clear throughout the theater. During most of her set, the middle screen showed starry animations with her lyrics dramatically appearing and disappearing. Her third song picked up the pace and as she strummed her guitar fiercely, the see of penlights turned red. She took a few breaks to talk to the audience in Japanese about her music but had a somewhat distant feel, as if she were not quite of our world. For her last song, she explained she’d be playing her debut song, Mikazuki. As the crowd seemed to readily understand her she gave them these parting words. “I’m glad you understand Japanese. I want to meet you again so please, live well!” Mikazuki, meaning Crescent Moon, was a wonderful mix of beautiful slow parts with dramatic fast parts. The middle screen showed shining crescent moons on the sides of her illuminate lyrics. She bowed low to the audience before walking off stage.

Up next was Aimer with a somewhat mysterious air. The camera was always slightly blurry when focused on her. When the music started, everyone anticipated the lights would become brighter. Instead, Aimer remained back-lit, her form hard to make out. A keyboardist played to the left of her. Her powerful, husky voice serenaded the audience. The middle screen was of her obscured form but as the next song started, clips from the Fate/Stay Night started playing. The crowd cheered loudly for the familiar song. She took a small break between songs to address the audience in English, earning her even more cheers. For several songs, the audience turned their penlights to white and waved them in a circle, a display that was unique to Aimer’s set. For her last song, “Last Stardust”, Aimer truly captivated the crowd. Fans of Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works rejoiced at the familiarity but everyone was blown away as Aimer would hold these high notes with an incredible vibrato that seemed beyond human means. Every time she would hold such a note, the crowd would burst into cheers and applause. It was a very powerful finish.

For the final act of the night, Yuuki Kajiura took to the stage with her band and 3 singers. As the genius composer who originally put together Kalafina, her music continues to transport the listener to far-away worlds of mystery and magic. For her first two songs, she played tracks used in the Fate/Zero soundtrack. With the stage rather dark, Yuuki sat at her piano playing while green laser lights illuminated the area. When finished with the first two songs, she addressed the audience in English and talked a bit about her music and introduced her 3 vocalists. She had almost a motherly quality to her, a sort of happiness just to talk to the audience and a kind smile. She then played Longing from the Sword Art Online OST, and a flute was added to the mix. Her next song had a more foreboding feel, and the flute gave off a melancholy sound, and the middle video screen showed a beautiful, red animation of what looked like a star being born. Yuuki then took a moment to introduce her band members and explained how important they are to her and how happy she is to make music with them. You could really feel how music seemed to give her happiness and meaning and made each song special to listen to. Her last song was another SAO piece, and a dark purple image of a black hole took up the middle screen.

As a special surprise, Yuuki’s last song was not truly her last, as Aimer took to the stage again for a special collaboration. The cameras would switch from Yuuki and Aimer, though Aimer remained blurred. As they played Hana no Uta, the crowd eagerly waved their light wands to the beat. Yuuki’s sweeping motions as her fingers trailed along the piano combined with the quiet intensity of Aimer’s arm-motions as she stood in place created a sense of traveling while remaining in place.

After their final song, Aimer called May’n and Sayuri to the stage. May’n bounced in, full of energy as always while Sayuri trailed behind. As everyone gave their goodbyes, they all wanted to convey how important anime was in getting them to where they are. Despite her tough, almost scary persona on stage, Sayuri appeared a little nervous as she said that anime connects us all, and she was happy to be connected with everyone. May’n cheerfully asked the audience to keep living so they could meet again at another Anime Expo. Aimer remarked that she was so happy to have collaborated with Yuuki and the whole event was very special. Yuuki ended the night with that same warm smile, thanking everyone for being a part of the night’s performance and added “We want to see you soon. Thank you!”

Hey friends! I reside in Georgia and use my degree in Japanese primarily to (barely) read doujinshi that hasn’t been translated. Beyond deciding who is best girl in whatever I happen to be watching, I really enjoy ballroom dancing, reading, crying over dating sims, karaoke, and being surrounded by beautiful things~ (You know, scenery, décor, boys, stuff like that). I also love talking about passions with others!

Anisong World Matsuri ~Japan Kawaii Live~ Concert Review

“Idols and Anime”

Saturday evening outside the Microsoft Theater, a hoard of idol fans gathered awaiting a concert of dreams. Half of the musical talents that would be gracing the stage had never performed in Los Angeles, and it was a rare treat to see so many amazing idols performing for one event. Despite the intensive heat, older teenagers to middle-aged adults of all genders lined up in the oppressive heat before the doors even opened. Some attendees were dressed in cosplay unconnected with the concert, given that the concert started at 5:30 pm which would be a little early for people to change out. There were even more people cosplaying characters from anime the performers voiced, shirts with those characters, stage outfits, or clothing meant to show their support for their favorite idols.

The six Cinderella Girls from iDOLM@STER were a mix of girls who had performed before and those who hadn’t which gave fans a sense of familiarity and a breath of fresh air. This concert was i☆Ris’ first ever overseas show, so the audience made it their mission to make them feel welcome and wanting to come back. While other members of AKB had made their way to the states, it was Team A’s first time so there was a chance for new love from old favorites. Shokotan is no stranger to AX, and people were excited about the accomplished otaku idol taking the stage again. With a night of cute girls and anime songs in store, everyone was in high spirits. As the crowd made their way inside, some people stopped for drinks while others rushed to their assigned seats, not wanting to miss a single moment!

Make sure you cheer loudly for i☆Ris!! We want them to know we’re happy they’re here!

First to take to the stage were the iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls. Kurosawa Tomoyo (Miria), Matsuzaki Rei (Kirari), Makino Yui (Mayu), Aoki Ruriko (Riina), Aihara Kitomi (Shiki), and Iida Yuko (Kanade) started off the night with Shine! Everyone captured their character’s subtle differences so well from Kanade’s more sensual movements to Miria’s cuter, sharper style. After their first song, they took a moment to introduce themselves and make a note of who had been to AX before or not. Then they asked the audience to which both repeat attendees and new-comers enthusiastically replied. Makino Yui did most of the talking, perhaps a tribute to her character wanting to be the best to get her Producer’s attention. Surprisingly, after introductions, they broke off into duos for unit songs. Tomoyo and Rei stayed on stage as the other 4 made their way off and performed Sunflower. After that, they switched out with Yui and Ruriko for a cute rendition of Love∞Destiny. With only characters Shiki and Kanade left, the audience expectedly waited for Kitomi and Yuko to return. Sure enough, they performed Tulip, easily one of the most popular songs of the set. For their last song, they somehow managed to get the crowd more excited with Onegai! Cinderella. The loudest voices came from the VIP section up front, but throughout the theater, there were many voices doing the cheers or calls for the song. Some people could be seen doing the dance along with the voice actresses on stage. They finished their song, said their goodbyes, and made way for the next group.

As i☆Ris excitedly ran out, loud cheering filled the area. They mostly spoke in Japanese but tried to throw in the English they knew as well to reach their audience. With their first song Fantasia WONDERLAND, they wowed everyone with their precision and coordination in dancing. Despite having a rather cute, energetic image, their second song Changing Point showed their versatility with a more serious, eerie song. Images from the anime “Mahou Shoujo Site” played as they sang the theme showing bleeding eyes and creepy faces. Their third song was a PriPara Medley which really got the crowd going as fans of both i☆Ris and the PriPara series. As they took another break to talk to the audience, they realized the VIP audience members had spelled out ‘Congratulations on 6 years!’ as it was the 6th anniversary of i☆Ris. They were so excited and grateful that a few of the girls went to grab their phones to take some pictures of the special display. For their last song they did their cover of We Are! from “One Piece” again delighting both i☆Ris and anime fans alike. Everyone in the theater sang along to the familiar song. As they bid their goodbyes, the crowd yelled ‘omedetou’ (congratulations) not only for their first overseas live but for their 6th anniversary.

AKB48’s Team 8 had an intro video unlike the other groups to get the audience excited. They started off their set with the well-known Aitakatta which had fans both singing and dancing along. After their second song, they introduced the present members and got right into their third song, Everyday, Kachusha which people seemed to enjoy. After another song, they took a moment to talk to the audience about how their trip had been. Of course, they had gotten a legendary American hamburger and were impressed with how big it was. They had also tried to make use of LA’s beautiful beaches but complained that it was far too hot, a sentiment the crowd all too readily agreed with. Next, was Koisuru Fortune Cookie, a song the crowd was pretty familiar with, the girls mentioned, as it was used for a commercial for Just Dance Wii U. Their final song was 47 no Sutekina Machi e, a rather chill song to end on. They excitedly exited the stage and shouted “I love you! See you again!”

For the final number, Nakagawa Shoko, also known as Shokotan, took to the stage. Music bumping, her eccentric dress with layers of fabric and fluffy sleeves bouncing with her movements. She had two backup dancers with loose, simple clothing by comparison. With her next song, Tsuzuku Sekai, she got the Gurren Lagann fans excited and the giant middle screen showed clips from the popular mecha show. She took a moment to ask the crowd “Do you like anime? Do you like otaku? Do you like cats??” The cat bit took everyone by surprise but with everyone being anime and cat fans, it made everyone laugh and cheer. She mentioned how over the years she’s had many good and bad things happen, a surprisingly somber note, but she said that it was thanks to anisong that she could meet so many wonderful people. The audience felt a special connection with that as they were all here for an anime convention. With anisong after anisong, she kept everyone pumped up. When she got to Zankoku Tenshi no Teeze, the already fired up crowd screamed the words along and jumped around. She had everyone change their penlights to blue for her final song Sorairo Days, and thanked everyone for being with her.

Everyone was so cute and energetic!

As everyone made their way back on stage, the crowd continued to applaud until i☆Ris came back in In-N-Out Burger hats and then they erupted into thunderous applause and laughter. They blew a goodbye kiss to the audience earning them more cheers. The Cinderella Girls thanked everyone who had seen them before and those joining them for the first time. As AKB was saying their goodbyes, i☆Ris was silently doing a bit of the dance from Koisuru Fortune Cookie, further endearing themselves into the audience’s heart. Shokotan’s closing words were a wonderful send-off for such a special night of anisongs. “We are otaku!” She yelled proudly, and the crowd yelled in agreement. The girls waved happily and kept yelling out goodbye as they, for the final time, exited the stage. Somewhat winded but extremely happy with the performances, the crowd meandered back onto the streets.
